My main criticism of the modwave is that the presets that Korg loads onto it are more showcase-y than useful, so you may find yourself needing to either create patches from scratch or buy patch packs with more workhorsey sounds. Samples used by a patch can't be changed at runtime - look to the wavestate for that - so drum kits are not really its forte. While there are drum multisamples on the modwave, you won't be able to select more than 2 layers x 2 oscillators per layer=4 different samples per patch. And of course you can load more multisamples and wavetables onto it from a computer. It has hundreds, maybe thousands, of multisamples built in. I love my modwave not only is it a very deep wavetable synth but it is also capable of playing samples and layering them with wavetables.
